Ladies
A Cotillion is a dress-up event, but not a prom.
The theme is Medieval/Reformation times. If you like you can dress
accordingly but it isn't necessary. (However, please remember no
backless, strapless or prom type dresses). Nice Sunday attire and comfortable formals are very appropriate.
Because
of the floor, please no high heeled or hard heeled shoes.
Modesty is a Good Thing, hence a few reminders. When choosing a dress,
you should move around as you will when dancing to ensure that the
dress will stay in place and not be revealing. In the hopes that many of your partners will be taller than you, make sure to check
what the dress looks like from above. No cleavage, please, and no
backless dresses. You should be able to wear proper undergarments with
any gown you choose without the aforementioned garments making a
public appearance. No two piece gowns, unless you can raise your arms
well above your head without skin showing on your back or midriff.
Gentlemen
The theme is Medieval/Reformation times. If you like you can dress
accordingly but it isn't necessary. Slacks and a button-up shirt would
be quite spiffy for the men. Remember, a
tie is a good thing; or a suit, as you like.
Shoes
Your shoes should be reasonably slick, even slippery. Leather
soles, ballet slippers, or dance shoes are very helpful, and slick
dress shoes are good for the men. You don't want to find yourself
rubberized to the floor at crucial moments. Because
of the floor, please no high heeled or hard heeled shoes.
