Why do you observe the Lord’s Supper every Lord’s Day? |
|
The Lord’s Supper is part of the Covenant Renewal service. We are commanded to observe the supper in remembrance of Him. (Luke 22:19) There is more to remembering Him than His sacrificial death on the cross for our sins. It is to remember my desperate state of deadness, hopelessness, and enmity with God that required the ultimate sacrifice of His only begotten son.
It is to remember that the satisfying work of Christ on the cross is our only hope, our only means of grace – before the foundations of the world, at the historic point of His physical death, and forever more as long as I shall live. And it is to show God that I submit myself to His provision by reminding Him that I am in need of the covenant to be renewed. Such an attitude of humbleness should be ever present in the faithful Christian and the Lord’s Supper is our opportunity to express such an attitude corporately with other faithful believers.
